Ely rider Darran Bennett started his season with a win on Saturday in his first time trial of the year on the 20 mile BS33 course near Stowmarket. The race was organised by the Stowmarket & District Cycling Club, and Bennett was the only rider to complete the 20 miles in under 46 minutes, stopping the clock on a time of 45:55 to give him his second outright victory in open competition.
Alison Fox was racing on Sunday in the Diss & District CC race on the B25/17 course east of Thetford. Fox was competing in the 'Eroica' category for pre-1980 bikes, where the use of aero extensions on the handlebars, modern aerodynamic wheels and indexed gears is not allowed. Fox completed the 25 mile course in a time of 1:15:38 putting her in 3rd place in that category.
Junior rider Harvey Woodroffe was racing off-road on Sunday in the Travers mountain bike series held near Southend-on-Sea. Racing in the Under 12 category, Woodroffe found that the narrow course made overtaking difficult but after 2 laps had made his way up to third place, a position he held over the remaining five laps to give him a podium finish.
