Ely & District Cycling Club - B&T Motor Repairs Press Release 23rd September 2021
The time trial season is drawing to a close, but Saturday saw three Ely riders taking part in the DAP CC 10 mile race on the B10/43 near Bungay. Darran Bennett put in another strong performance, finishing the 10 mile course in 20 minutes and 46 seconds despite finishing with a puncture, to put him in 3rd place overall. Derek Ricketts was the second fastest Ely rider on the day with a time of 22:22 followed by Martin Lewis on 24:43.
Junior rider Harvey Woodroffe was also competing on Saturday, in a closed circuit criterium road race at the Redbridge Cycling Centre. Racing in the Under 12 boys category in the LVYCC Last of the Summer Races, this was the first time Woodroffe had returned to the Redbridge venue since his crash 3 months ago. Although initially racing in the lead group, Woodroffe got dropped from the lead group but battled on to finish 7th, also hindered by a puncture during the race which meant he finished the race with one tyre completely flat.
Woodroffe was racing again on Sunday, in a cyclocross race at the Milton Keynes bowl organised by Team Milton Keynes. He and his fellow Ely junior rider Lucas Bowman were racing in the Under 12 Boys race, with Woodroffe finishing the race in 6th place and Bowman in 14th. Lucas's father Neil was racing in the same event in the V50 category, and despite starting towards the back of the field in 56th place on the grid he worked his way up to 20th on the techincal grass circuit.
Finally, John Manlow was the sole Ely rider in the ECCA 25 mile race on Sunday on the B25/8 in Norfolk. Manlow finished the 25 mile course in a time of 54:20, a course personal best for him, giving him 13th place overall.
