TIME TRIAL AND CYCLOCROSS RACING FOR ELY RIDERS

Ely & District Cycling Club - B&T Motor Repairs Press Release 1st October 2021

The time trial season may be drawing to a close, but that didn't stop members of the Ely & District Cycling Club - B&T Motor Repairs setting new personal bests in a busy weekend of Cyclocross and Time Trial racing. There were two time trial races on Saturday featuring Ely riders. In the Kings Lynn CC 10 mile race at Tottenhill Will Shepherd was the faster Ely rider, completing the 10 mile course in a time of 23:37, a course personal best for him. Robert Goult finished in a time of 25:38, just a few seconds slower than his best time on the course.

Ely riders were also competing in the East Anglia VTTA 25 race on the F2/25 course near Cambourne. Darren Bennett finished in 13th place overall with a time of 50:23, his fastest time over 25 miles and an average speed of just under 30mph. John Manlow also set a distance personal best with a time of 53:29, while Glen Clark was racing in his first ever 25 mile race and finished just outside the hour mark in a time of 1:03:11.

Junior rider Harvey Woodroffe was racing on Saturday in round 3 of the CX in the City cyclocross race held in Milton Keynes. Racing in the Under 12 category, Harvey started from the back of the grid but got a great start and charged up to 5th after the first few corners, taking another place during the first lap. Riders were chasing him down during the race, but he held them off to take 4th spot.

On Sunday there was more Cylocross racing in round 1 of the Eastern League Cyclocross Series at Springfield Park, Chelmsford. Despite having raced the day before, Harvey Woodroffe put in another excellent performance to finish 2nd in the Under 12 category, with Lucas Bowman finishing 9th in the same race. In the Youth category Tom Lewis put in a strong performance to finish in 6th place, while in the veterans category Ferenc Vanhoutte showed that all his recent training has been paying off, finishing in 30th place in the V40 category, with Neil Bowman riding an excellent race in the ultra-competitive V50 category to finish 16th.
