ROAD, TT & MTB FOR EDCC

After last weekend's record-breaking TT action, racing resumed again for members of the Ely & District Cycling Club - B&T Motor Repairs with a midweek race meeting at the Lotus test track at Hethel in the third of six rounds of the Lotus Cars Cycle Race League 2021. Harvey Woodroffe was racing in the U12s race in which he and another rider rode clear at the beginning of the race. While Woodroffe contested the sprint for the line he was just pipped at the post, taking 2nd place on the day. Fellow junior Ely rider Kieran Vanhoutte was also competing at the same event and won the Under 14 boys' race, a result influenced considerably by the fact the only other racer in that category did not finish the race, while his father Ferenc Vanhoutte was racing in the 4th category race, coming home in 24th place out of 50 riders in only his third road race.

The next day Woodroffe was racing again at Milton Keynes in round 1 of the National Bowl Midweek Youth Racing series. Woodroffe again made it into the lead group from the start, consisting of five riders, and sprinted to another 2nd place.

Ely riders were also racing on Wednesday evening in a 10 mile VTTA race on the E2/10 course near Six Mile Bottom. Rob Golding set an excellent time of 19:48, an average speed of over 30mph, to finish in 6th place overall with a course personal best and only one second off his all-time personal best for that distance. Derek Ricketts finished in a time of 21:52 in 28th place, just ahead of Will Shepherd who finished the 10 miles in a time of 22:31 to give him 31st place on the day, but both Ricketts and Shepherd were delayed during the race by their chains coming off their chainrings. Alison Fox finished in a time of 24:09 to give her 42nd place overall and 3rd place in the women's race, a time which was a distance personal best for her.

On Sunday it was the 3rd round of the Mud Sweat and Gears MTB series at Haughley Park near Bury St Edmunds. Mathew Eley was racing in the first division Men's race and finished in 11th place overall. Michael Burrell finished in 18th place in the Division 3 race, ahead of George Hallam in 58th. Junior rider Tom Lewis was racing in the Men's Division 4 race, open to anyone over 13, and finished in 22nd place, while Harvey Woodroffe was racing once again and finished 6th in the U13 Boy's race.
