RECORD-BREAKING RIDE FROM WALKER MEERS

Sophie Walker Meers took advantage of the nearly ideal conditions on Sunday to set a new club record for a 50 mile time trial. The previous women's record for 50 miles was set by Zena Palgrave in 2018 with a time of 2:05:05, but Walker Meers went significantly faster in the Viking 50 race held on the F2/50 course near Cambourne, stopping the clock in a time of 2 hours 1 minute and 2 seconds at an average speed of 24.8mph.

Racing in the same event, albeit under the Veterans' Time Trial Assocation banner, Rob Golding continued his excellent form in 2021 to finish in a time of 1:46:55, with John Manlow coming home in a time of 1:51:37.

Derek Ricketts continued his strong show of form in 2021, setting his 8th distance or course personal best in a row in the Godric CC 10 mile race near Bungay on Saturday, knocking 24 seconds off his previous personal best on the course. His time of 22:19 gave him third place in the Veterans' competition on standard.

Junior rider Harvey Woodroffe maintained his hectic race calendar for 2021 with two races, starting with a race at the legendary Lotus test track at Hethel in Norfolk on Tuesday. Woodroffe made it into a two man group from the start, but despite closing the gap to the lead rider wasn't quite able to get past so had to settle for second place on the day. On Saturday Woodroffe was racing again at the Redbridge Cycling Centre, and again made it into the front group from the start. However, with 2 laps to go the group fractured and a group of 4 riders went clear. Woodroffe sprinted well at the end of the race to take 6th place in the Under 12s category.

Finally, Rory Havis headed off to the A47 near Wisbech on Sunday to take part in the Wisbech Wheelers race on the B25/6 course. Havis finished in a time of 54:43 to put him in 9th place overall.
