The 2021 time trial season continued on Saturday with another East Anglia Veteran Time Trial Association event, this time a 25 mile race on the E33/25 which consists of two laps of a triangular circuit between Six Mile Bottom and Newmarket. The conditions were more benign that in last week's event, without the near-freezing temperatures, but the north-easterly wind would make the final leg of the triangular course a challenge.
Despite that, all four Ely & District Cycling Club - B&T Motor Repairs riders set new personal bests for the course, improving their previous best times by between 31 seconds and 2 minutes and 7 seconds. Darran Bennett started 2021 where he left off in 2020, setting the fastest time of the Ely riders by completing the course in 57 minutes and one second, a time which left him in 10th place overall and first in his age category. However, Rob Golding put it an impressive ride which saw him stop the clock in a time only 9 seconds slower than Bennett's time, giving him 11th place overall and also taking first place in his age category. John Manlow completed the 25 miles in a time of 59:11 in 18th place, while Derek Ricketts came home in 26th place overall with a time of 1:01:32.
