Ely & District Cycling Club - B&T Motor Repairs Press Release 12th August 2021
Six members of the Ely & District Cycling Club - B&T Motor Repairs took part in 25 mile time trials on Saturday, but in two very different races. The first took place on the F2A/25 course near Cambourne, an ultra-fast course up and down the A428, in an event organised by the Veterans Time Trial Association. Rob Golding was the fastest Ely rider, with a time of 51 minutes and 35 seconds, followed by Will Shepherd on 56:54 and Steve Peck on 58:52.
The other three riders were racing in the Kings Lynn CC race on the B25/33 course east of Downham Market, a more rolling and scenic course than the F2A/25 and as a result producing slower times. Despite unseasonably cold conditions all three set new personal bests for that course. Darran Bennett was the fastest Ely rider, completing the 25 miles in a time of 55 minutes 19 seconds. Bennett just missed out on a podium overall, finishing in 4th place, but took first place in his age category. Derek Ricketts went under the hour for the first time on the B25/33 course, stopping the clock on 59:07, while John Manlow came home in a time of 1:00:50.
